Escape to Paradise - Surfers Paradise

Adventures

Last weekend my husband and I treated ourselves to a weekend getaway to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. We stayed at The Hilton where we always find the staff very friendly and attentive (shout out to the pool waitstaff who found us our much anticipated Tiki Coladas even though the bar was closed).

After we checked in to the hotel and deposited (threw) our bags in our room, we hot footed it down to Helm Bar for lunch. We stuffed ourselves silly on their Famous Seafood Sharing Stand for Two whilst we watched boats and jetskis cruise down the Nerang River, sipping cocktails of course.

Helm Bar Cocktail
Cocktail #1 Rum Bongo: Pampero Blanco Rum with Coconut Liqueur, Grenadine & passionfruit, shaken over ice & topped with pineapple juice. Tasted like a Pina Colada, yum!

Helm Bar Oysters Prawns
Super fresh natural oysters and prawns.

Slipper Lobster
Salt & Pepper Squid
Soft Shell Crab and Salt & Pepper Squid

Chips, Crab, Calamari

Cocktail #2 Rin Tin Gin: Tanqueray Gin, Ginger Liqueur, & St Germain Elderflower Liqueur, smash in strawberries & fresh lime topped with tonic. My favourite out of the two, it was like a reinvented Pimms Cup.

After lunch we rolled ourselves back to the hotel and readied for an afternoon lazing by the main pool.

More pool essentials - G&T and a magazine.

THE Tiki Colada - this was the most alcoholic version of a Pina Colada I have ever had, so yum.

A watermelon inspired manicure, pineapple bathers, pink lip and a cocktail: How to Pool Successfully.

Still feeling super full and eager to use our upgrade to Hilton Executive Lounge access, we skipped dinner and munched on the tapas on offer in the lounge which we followed up with more cocktails at FIX Bar. I started off with a classic, an Aviation. I love the floral fragrance this gin based cocktail has from the liqueur de violette. And rounded out the night with a cup of tea, kind of.
Fix Bar Surfers Paradise
British Summer Garden Martini: London Dry Gin, fresh pressed cucumber, somerset cider, pressed Granny Smith apples, chamomile tincture-served on turf with a cut grass mist, smoking watering can, edible soil, absinth jelly worms and mini gardening tools. Pretty spectacular.

Thanks to the 1 hour time difference between Victoria and Queensland, we woke up fairly early (for a weekend anyway), had breakfast in the Executive Lounge, satisfied my inner mermaid by dipping in the ocean then once again lazed the day away by the pool before packing our sun kissed selves up and flying safely home.
