Christmas is Coming! - DIY Advent Calendar

Christmas Decorating

It's time to dust off the tinsel and bring Christmas into your home.

Decorations have been up in most shopping centres since November 1st. Whilst I applaud their enthusiasm I prefer to wait until the weekend before December 1st to decorate my home for Christmas. Now, as much as I am a Christmas fiend I'm rather restrained when it comes to decorating the house. A little Santa here, a spritz of sparkle there and a Nutcracker for good measure.

I don't believe it's necessary to spend a fortune on Christmas decorations so I usually buy mine from Daiso, Big W and Kmart.

This year I wanted to create an advent calendar that would give my husband and I plenty of opportunities to make time for each other and connect. After all, Christmas is all about spending time with the ones you love. I looked at a ton of advent calendar ideas on Pinterest and then came up with a plan I was happy with. Here is the end result:

From our local discount store I purchased brown paper bags, number stickers, seal stickers, string, clear push pins and gift tag labels.

We then each chose a sweet treat we might like to have each day and came up with some activities to do together throughout the month.

Next came construction. Each paper bag received a sweet for the two of us and then certain bags received an activity card also. Before sealing the bag I punched 2 holes in the back and thread the string through, 6 bags per length except for the top two rows of my tree shaped calendar. Tie a loop on either end of the string and use the push pins to secure them to the wall. VoilĂ !

How do you decorate for Christmas? Tag me in any pictures you post to Instagram (@thedaycationdiary) I'd love to see them!
