Dribbles Burgers, Essendon

Adventures
Dribbles Burgers and Beers Essendon

On February 8th the Mr. and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary. We decided it would be fun to do an activity each night after work in the week between our anniversary and Valentines day. Life did get in the way of #loveweek on one night during the week so we didn't end up completing an activity for that night. Here is a photo diary of what we got up to plus a review on one of our favourite (if not THE favourite) burger bars - aptly named Dribbles.

Inner Child Play

Play!

That's right, we made a sheet fort. We embraced our inner child, built an epic sheet fort complete with fairy lights, cooked a delicious pasta dinner and ate it in our castle with a great bottle of red wine to accompany. You're never too old for a sheet fort.

Pancakes

Pancakes

Tuesday 9 February was Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday), the perfect opportunity to gorge ourselves on a delicious pancake dessert. Heres how I make mine:

Ingredients
1 Cup Self Raising Flour
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Egg
3/4 cup Coconut Water
Chocolate Chips

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients except the chocolate chips into a blender (I use a Magic Bullet), blitz until all ingredients are mixed.
  2. Stir chocolate chips through by hand.
  3. Cook in a fry pan with coconut oil on medium heat with a lid on.
  4. Drizzle with maple syrup and glutton out on the fluffy, chocolaty goodness.

Dukkah Popcorn and Movie Night

Dukkah popcorn is super easy to make. Just pop a pan of plain popcorn as you usually would, then once completely popped drizzle with coconut oil and sprinkle on your favourite Dukkah.
We watched Unfinished Business starring Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson. Very funny movie, highly recommended :)

Dribbles Cat

Also known as Essendon's answer to In-N-Out. By me. I have no idea if anyone else calls it that. Dribbles is an American style burger bar who have hit the mark on everything I want in a burger. My favourite on the menu is the LeBron Burner, succulent beef patty sandwiched between a lightly toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, cheese (I get mine sans cheese), jalapeƱos, Dribbles hot sauce and mayo. Spicy deliciousness. And in super awesome news: they now have wings on the menu! Choose from Hot and Spicy, Sweet Chilli and Chocolate Chilli. We went for the Hot and Spicy which could have used a little more sauce but still delicious and something I would definitely purchase again. Basically, get your butt there because it's gooooooooood.

Mountain Goat Beer
I first heard about this Absolut Botanik pre-mix on Instagram so decided to give it a go. I really liked it, it had quite a crisp flavour when I was anticipating something quite sweet. Well played Absolut, I will be buying this again.

Baby love

Oh Hi There

On the final day of #loveweek we had the honour of meeting a beautiful new soul. After admiring the little Prince we went to Rivers of Yarrambat for lunch on our good friends recommendation. The food was delicious, the service was super friendly and the grounds were beautiful. We will definitely be going there again when we are in the area. I had Grilled Smoked Salmon with a side of Skinny Fries and the Mr. had an anything but ordinary Chicken Burger. The menu lists dietary provisions for gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan AND they are a member of the Coeliac Society of Victoria so it's a cracking place to take someone with dietary requirements.

The cafe balcony floats over the duck pond. You can feed the resident ducks with the duck feed sold in the cafe.
Flowers for Valentines Day are nice but I think a week of adventure is better. What 'alternative' ways have you celebrated love with your best friend? Let me know in the comments below.
