Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia

Adventures

An escape to the seaside is always a good idea so the Mr. and I ran away recently to beautiful Broadbeach on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia. We had a super lazy time which was just what we needed and discovered some places we will be visiting again when we return. We stayed at the Sofitel where we have stayed numerous times before and keep returning for one reason and one reason only, the piña coladas served by the pool with a friendly smile.

After checking in to our river view king room, we set out to locate a seafood platter worthy of the location. We found one located off the main strip in a restaurant called Yellowfin. The service was very friendly, the wine chilled and the platter gaspingly beautiful to look at and delicious to taste.

After stuffing ourselves silly we couldn't refrain any longer from jumping in our cozzies and seeking out the long awaited piña coladas by the pool. They were certainly worth the wait and if we hadn't eaten more than our weight in crustacean we would have had at least 5 more each.

I decided to branch away from my usual for one and try the Midori Splice, no cream. It was delicious but not as delicious as the Piña Colada.
The first night we dined at a turkish restaurant called Mecca Bah. The food was delicious but the service staff definitely need some more training or just better guidance from the restaurant management. It seemed like no one was clear on what their role was for the nights shift so everyone was running everywhere not really achieving anything. This was in extreme contrast to the kitchen which operated like a well oiled machine. I would go there again purely because the food was so so good.

The sun bid us good night in all it's golden brilliance.

Our next day started with buffet breakfast gazing out over the pool, through the rain.

I love that they bring you a juice shot with your morning coffee.

After breakfast we retired to our room to wait for the clouds to clear.

We are very skilled at this relaxing thing.
As soon as the sun started peaking through the clouds my bathers were on and i was enjoying a private pool experience. It seemed no one else trusted that the rain was done for the day, fools.

When our tummies started rumbling again we set out on the hunt for lunch, including cocktails of course. We ended up at an absolute gem of a Mexican bar/restaurant called Miss Margarita. They make a super smooth margarita and tasty tasty food offerings but we found the service a little too relaxed. It took us a number of times to get the attention of a waiter to bring us more drinks. The place had a great atmosphere though and I'm sure we will be returning.

Anywhere with pineapples on their menu gets my thumbs up!
We whiled away the afternoon with a stroll along the beach and had a late dinner at a great gin bar and restaurant, Hank. We had the best food and service of our entire trip at Hank and can not wait to return to experience it all again. We were the last customers in the restaurant by the end of the night and not once did we feel like we were being ushered out. *Applause*
I have no pictures of our delicious meal so heres a pic of the gloomy sky from our balcony. Nature is so beautiful.

This photo was not taken in black and white, that is just the colour the dusk painted itself.
Our last morning started again with breakfast in the hotel and then pool time where we congratulated each other on a weekend well spent. What places should we explore next time we are in Broadbeach?

Wow Megan, your food photography is absolutely AMAZING. What a stunning post. I am from Brissy but my girlfriend and I adore the GC and I think we need to visit Hank next time we head down for the weekend! Just the restaurant recommendation we've been looking for
